Backpacker Car Rentals Perth AU Rental Terms for travel between 01-Apr-2007 and 31-Mar-2009

Upon confirmation that your chosen vehicle is available, a non-refundable deposit will be taken from your credit card to secure the booking. In addition to this, the following conditions apply to the rental:

Minimum Age
The driver must be aged 21 years or above. If you are the sole driver and aged between 21 –24 years of age are required to pay an additional daily charge as detailed at the time of booking.

License Requirements
The driver must be the holder of a current driver's licence valid for use in Western Australia. We accept almost any driver's licence provided it is translated in English. We recommend you obtain an 'International Driving Permit' before traveling to Australia.

Photo Identification
The driver must produce recent photograph identification. A Driver's Licence, Passport, Student Identification Card, Library Card or Security Identification Card are just a few examples of acceptable photograph id - you may have something else which is acceptable like a Credit Card with photograph - basically any form of official photograph id is OK.

Address Verification
The driver must be able to verify a current residential address. Latest telephone or electricity account, bank statement, Credit Card statement etc. Almost anything is fine providing it has been posted to your current residential address within 1-2 weeks prior to pick-up. If you are visiting Western Australia from another state or country, in addition to the above verification of your usual residential address, you will also need full details of your Perth address including contact phone number (perhaps a rental accommodation receipt for a period exceeding the term of the car hire period or a friend/family member's local details).

Bond
You will need to pay a cash bond of $500. This is to be paid at the commencement of hire and held as a security deposit pending safe return of the car at the end of the rental period. This amount is payable regardless of whether you have taken out any excess reduction insurance.

Permitted Area of Travel
Perth Metropolitan Only. Travel is valid within the Perth Metropolitan area and is defined by us as a 50km radius from the Perth CBD. The Lucky Economy tariff is extended to also include Mandurah to the south and Yanchep to the north of the City!

What's Included in the Cost of Hire
1. The cost of the car rental includes 700kms per week (100kms per day)
2. A fully comprehensive insurance for one driver aged 25 years or above
3. All government taxes
4. Roadside service for peace of mind.

What is NOT Included in the Cost of Hire?
1. We do not offer an airport pick-up and/or delivery service. Our off-airport services allow us to provide discounted rates without the expensive location overheads. These savings are passed on to you. There is a coach service available at reasonable prices between the airport and our depot. We would be delighted to arrange this on your behalf if required and the cost is generally cheaper than a Taxi.
2. Cleaning of the vehicle is not included in the cost of hire and we recommend you wash and vacuum the vehicle prior to returning to the depot. If time restraints or lack of enthusiasm prevail, a $20 fee will apply for a standard wash and vacuum. This also enables us to provide discounted rates without expensive labour costs.
3. Insurance cover for damage caused by wildlife is specifically excluded as our car rental services are Metropolitan only. Travel away to the countryside is not permitted.
4. A break-down of the vehicle due to operator error (for example: low or no fuel, keys locked in car or flat battery) will result in a call-out fee being payable by you. The roadside service is complimentary for mechanical failures only – not operator error.

Insurance Cover
Fully comprehensive insurance is included in any price you are quoted. The cover is fully comprehensive and not merely a collision damage cover. The policy covers you in the event of an accident with another vehicle, in a single car accident or if the car is stolen. There are also no nasty surprises such as a decline of cover if the accident occurs whilst reversing! The insurance we have is amongst the best available anywhere in Australia and offers total peace of mind. All vehicles are fitted with security immobilisers to help prevent theft.

Insurance Charges
If the sole driver of the vehicle is aged between 21 – 24 years of age an insurance surcharge applies of $5 per day ($35 per week). If you require a 2nd driver insurance, the cost will be an additional $21 per week ($3 per day) for a driver aged 25 years or above and $56 per week ($8 per day) for a driver aged 21 – 24 years. This optional cover is in addition to the above insurance and costs $35 per week ($5 per day) per driver. These extra charges, if applicable, will be added to your rental at the time of pick-up. It is not compulsory and Qualification Conditions Apply. Our insurance excess is generally $1000 providing you are over 25 years of age. If you are aged between 21 - 24, an additional excess of $500 applies. Providing you have held a driver's license for more than 2 years and your driver history is good with no medical conditions likely to affect your driving ability, no other excess is applicable. An excess is only payable in the event of an accident or theft of the motor vehicle. If we successfully recover the damages from a third party, then no cost whatsoever is borne by you.

We offer an insurance waiver option reducing the standard insurance excess by $500. This optional cover is in addition to the above insurance and is quoted on the website at the time of booking. It is not compulsory and Qualification Conditions Apply.

Payment
Our preferred method of payment is Cash and our quoted rental tariffs assume this payment method. We have no ATM or EFTPOS facilities available at our depot. You need to bring along enough money to cover the rental cost and a $500 bond requirement. The bond is of course fully refundable upon safe and clean return of the car. Credit card facilities are available onsite and from the bookings page of the Backpacker Perth Website, but please be advised a 4% surcharge will be applied to the total of your bill.

Excess Kilometres
Excess kilometres travelled over and above those included in your rental accumulate and are charged at a cost of 0.20c per kilometre.

Fuel
Fuel is not included in the price of your rental and must be replaced to the level indicated on your car hire agreement. Fuel prices can fluctuate regularly by as much as 10c per litre, so keeping an eye out for discounted fuel could save you valuable $.

Rental Restrictions
Cigarette smoking, transportation of pets and tampering with company identification affixed to the vehicle is not permitted and may result in a bond deduction.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.

A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:

To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

All pick ups and drop offs must be made between 9.00am and 5.00pm. You will need to make your own way from Perth to our Fremantle depot which is about 17km (about 30 - 40 minutes based on traffic condtions) from the centre of Perth and around 20km from Perth Airport (about 35 - 45 mins based on traffic conditions)
